Panel of “The Jerusalem Triptych” from Our Lady’s Church in Gdansk. To the upper right is the Holy Family fleeing to Egypt. In the foreground is the massacre of the Innocents in Bethlehem. In the middle toward the left is the “miracle of the corn” (or “miracle of the wheat”). According to this legend, when Herod’s soldiers question peasants about when the Holy Family passed, they respond truthfully that it was when they were sowing the wheat, which is now full height. What the soldiers do not know is that at the very recent passing of the Holy Family, the freshly sown wheat had suddenly and miraculously grown.
