In 1630 on March 16-17, Forts St. Ignatius and St. Louis were attacked by the Iroquois and set afire. The next day a similar attack was launched against Fort St. Marie. Everyone had recourse to St. Joseph, their national patron. On March 19, St. Joseph Day, the enemy fled in panic.
