Duccio di Buoninsegna, c. 1255-1319, Italian painter, a major figure in the Sienese school whose influence on the development of painting was profound. His works for the Siena Cathedral (1308-1311) are largely Byzantine in style, with much gold detail, but depicted with warmth and tenderness.
