33 x 54 inches. The Holy Family is presented with realism as members of the working class, in the ordinary setting of a common carpentry shop. Because of its unconventionality the painting drew public criticism from many, including Charles Dickens. Many saints, such as St. Joseph Marello, however, have reflected upon the hidden life of Nazareth, and how the most extraordinary sanctity was concealed under the most ordinary appearances.
