Marguerite Bourgeoys had founded a school 30 years earlier, but her community could not receive any more sisters unless their constitutions received official approval. In 1697 the superior made a prilgrimage to pray to St. Joseph at the church dedicated to him in Point-Lévis. The following year, the rule was approved and the Sisters of Notre Dame made their first profession of vows. “Go to Joseph,” the “Guardian of Virgins.”
